Rynek Glowny

The Rynek is the center of town.. Here, you will find buildings from all periods of Krakow. Its size is 40 000 sqare meters - an enormous size, separated though into two halves by the Renaissance building Sukkienice. Medieval town houses and feudal palaces which now host cafés, restaurants and shops, surround the square. In summer, the atmosphere on the Rynek and under its arcades is almost mediterranean. People meet here until late at night.

In the southeastern part of the square the tower of the city hall from the 14th century rises up to the air. Down below underin its cellar arches used to be a torture chamber and a dungeon. Nowadays, this is the playground of a cabaret and a bar.

Palais Krzysztofory at the north western corner of the Rynek is said to be the most voluptous of all palaces of Krakow.

The most prominent building at the Rynek is Church of Mary. Its twin towers have different heights and there are some legends trying to explain that fact.
