Schöneberg: around Winterfeldplatz

Schöneberg lies in the western part of Berlin somewhere between Ku'damm and Kreuzberg. The lifestyle here can also be classified as somewhat between the two: neither bourgeois like the Ku'damm, nor radically alternative like Kreuzberg SO 36. Every resident in this district, so they say, has their own particular wine shop.

Probably the most important event in Schöneberg is the open-air market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Not far away is Goltzstrasse, meeting point for the scene, with the legendary Café M. Just around the corner is Motzstrasse, home to many gay cafés, bars and the gay scene itself. Every June, the annual gay and lesbian street festival takes place here.

Located about 500 m away is another sub-center in Schöneberg: the Kleistpark/Potsdamer Straße area. As one might expect, the streets here are filled with trendy boutiques, cinemas, restaurants, cafés and bars. David Bowie once lived in one of the sidestreets in this part of Schöneberg.
